  The Indian Information Technology industry has grown at an impressive rate during the last decade. The vast pool of skilled manpower, especially in the field of software, with decades of experience with a comprehensive range of hardware and software platforms, has developed a high degree of professionalism through considerable international exposure. Indian software professionals, besides being extremely cost-effective, have the experience of developing systems and applications of international quality and at world-class levels of productivity. It is also an attractive market in its own right.

Indian domestic IT spending is shifting towards software and services and small systems. Computing infrastructure is overwhelmingly oriented towards "open", popular microprocessor -based servers and computers. Collaborations in India with major international computer vendors like Digital Equipment Corporation, Hewlett Packard, IBM and Sun, together with plummeting import duties, have allowed Indian users access to computers as soon as these are available. Outsourcing, the use of packaged software, and networking have increased, reflecting the global trend.
