Indian domestic IT spending is shifting
towards software and services and small systems. Computing infrastructure
is overwhelmingly oriented towards "open", popular microprocessor -based
servers and computers. Collaborations in India with major international
computer vendors like Digital Equipment Corporation, Hewlett Packard, IBM
and Sun, together with plummeting import duties, have allowed Indian users
access to computers as soon as these are available. Outsourcing, the use
of packaged software, and networking have increased, reflecting the global
trend.
